The brushed motor is the
simplest of the motor kits, and is very reliable. It is designed to
fit on mountain bike and hybrid frames with rim brakes. Weight is
14 pounds for the kit (w/o batteries). Using this motor kit, you
could travel between 20-40 miles per charge with typical 36V 10 to
12 amp hour batteries. The brushed motor does not develop quite as
much torque as the brushless motors, and it requires occasional
brush replacement every 2-5 years depending on use. But it is a
very reliable motor that gives you extra power to deal with hills,
hot weather, or long distance commuting.
Batteries: the kit does not include batteries, you can add
whichever type you prefer from 24V to 48V. You can use inexpensive
lead acid batteries in a trunk bag, or add lighter and
longer-lasting varieties like our NiCad, NiMH, or LiFEPO4
batteries.
• At 24V it will give a small amount of assist up to a top speed of
about 23mph. Peak thrust is about 14lbs, and peak power is around
200 watts (equal to a typical person pedaling at a moderate
rate)
• At 36V, it develops almost 20 lbs of thrust, and has a top speed
of 34mph, with a peak power of about 450 watts, doubling an average
person's pedal power on the bike
• At 48V it has a peak power of ~650 watts, top assist speed of 40+
mph, and a peak thrust of about 22 lbs. Beware of your local laws
regarding electric bikes if you attempt to run it that
fast.
