Xtracycle from Cycle9

Saturday 13 February, 2010

I've been using the Xtracycle Freeradical from Cycle9 for a few months and can honestly report that I've thoroughly enjoyed cargo biking! After realizing my rack/panniers weren't enough for the loads I wanted to carry, I spent quite a while deciding between a trailer or Xtracycle. Your up-front advice and ease of ordering/delivery sealed the deal. Now I can't wait to try out some of your electric drive options to help with the heavy loads on the substantial hills where I live. I've been following the Cycle9 blogs as well as the Endless Sphere posts and know when I get to that point, there's no one else I'd trust. Keep up the good work!

Super Wheels!

Monday 01 February, 2010

As a relatively new Freeradical user, I recently realized my old wheels were not up to the new demands being placed upon them (!). All the members of Rootsradicals forum pointed me here to Cycle9. A few quick emails back and forth, and a new set of super Rhyno Lite 26" rims and really nice Shimano XT hubs were in the works. Cycle9 was fantastic with communication and delivered the order exactly within the predicted timeframe. Plus, the wheels rock! THANKS!

Carpool

Carpool

I hope you can see this attached picture that a random biker took of me carrying the school carpool home--4 kids on the Madsen with electric assist from Cycle 9! I LOVE it.

(Editor's Note - Brynnen added the Electric Kit for Madsen from Cycle 9 to her new Madsen bike. She was nervous about being able to carry all 4 kids, but was able to do it with the electric kit and says she is almost always using the bike now.)

My whole biking life has been transformed by the EZEE motor

My whole biking life has been transformed by the EZEE motor

Old football injuries and age (65) have combined to limit my enjoyment of my favorite recreational exercise and workout vehicle---30 to 50 mile bike rides over hilly terrain. My recumbent bike, at 35 lbs., made hills difficult to negotiate without my knees hurting both during and after the ride. In addition I could never keep up with my friends without knee pain and exhaustion.

Then I came across Cycle 9 and one of the owners Elise. She recommended the EZEE hub motor kit for my bike, helped me tailor it to my bike for mounting, shipped it, and then kept in touch by phone and email to answer my questions about installation---though the motor was so easy to install there were very few questions necessary.

My whole biking life has been transformed by the EZEE motor. I can ride anywhere, over any terrain, keeping up with the strongest riders, and still getting all the workout I want. Using the motor as an assist for hills primarily, and ocassionally as an assist to stay with my speedy friends, I can usually cover 60 to 90 miles on one charge.

Having shopped carefully and talked to many electric bike motor dealers, I found Elise and Cycle 9 to be the most helpful, eager to please, committed to me as a customer of any dealer that I contacted. That is why she got my business. I have a bunch of same age friends who are now planning on adding a motor from Cycle 9 to their bikes in the Spring in order to extend their riding days far into the future.

If you are considering an electric assist motor, save yourself some time and effort and call Cycle 9. I live on the West Coast----and that made no difference at all in the quality of service. They truly do service what they sell, say what they will do and do what they say. In today's world that is an uncommon experience most places. But not at Cycle 9.

The Tallest Ebike

The Tallest Ebike

Well I've been having too much fun on my e-bike and I never sent a photo. It's attached. It's a 1980s Bridgestone,27-inch frame, probably the tallest e-bike conversion you'll see..I'm 6'5". This roadbike conversion went smoothly thanks to you helpful folks at Cycle9, who
went above and beyond the call of duty to answer my questions. My new ebike has made my commute, a 15-mile roundtrip, much easier. No more showing up to work meetings all sweaty and I never take my car now. Plus it's way way fun to ride.

Perfect place for bicycle transformations

Perfect place for bicycle transformations

Coming from bike friendly California to less bike friendly North Carolina, I knew I needed to change my ride, to adapt. With the help of everyone at Cycle 9 (Morgan, Elise, Kristin), I converted my bike to the ultimate commuter-mobile (for me). It now has bulletproof tires, an electric motor that increases my average speed to ~20mph when I pedal and motor, “ground effects” (Down Low Glow), and the best rear blinky I’ve ever had.

They’ve also helped me in times of technical trouble. For example, my 10 year old back wheel kept going out of true. They helped me come to grips with the fact that it was on the way out (confirmed when they sent me over to a neighboring shop for a second opinion), and hooked me up with a new wheel for very little money. When my battery seemed like it had diminished capacity, they checked it out, worked with the vendor, and had me a brand new battery to replace my almost year old battery.

amazing

Friday 04 September, 2009

I have a 42 mile roundtrip commute, I've biked it about 10 times but I had no time or energy for anything but getting to work and back. I finally gave in and purchased the ezee kit with the 48 volt battery upgrade. I am AMAZED! I still get a great workout and I'm not completely exhausted when I arrive home. I have a relatively flat commute route and am able to make the 21 miles each way in about 59 minutes of riding. It takes me 30-45 minutes in my car, but I am a lot happier after riding than I am after driving. The staff at cycle 9 has been very helpful. Thanks so much

UN-FREEKING-BELIEVABLE! I LOVE IT!!!

UN-FREEKING-BELIEVABLE! I LOVE IT!!!

I took my first real ride with the eZee today, and I can sum it up in 4 words: UN-FREEKING-BELIEVABLE! I LOVE IT!!!

The stats: 18.57 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes, avg speed 14.5 mph, avg. power usage 9.5 watt hrs/mile, total amp hrs used 4.55, total altitude gain/loss 609'.

That's at least 4.5 mph faster than I can do without the assist on a GOOD day, and while I worked up a good sweat, the effort was much more constant than without the assist...and I'm not totally bonked afterwards. I'm sure I could do 30 miles of our local terrain with no problem, and looks like I should have plenty of power to go that distance, maybe more. I was able to go up most of the hills at 10 mph or better, and there's one short hill that's 21-22%, I got up that one at around 7-8 mph without undue effort. Wow! One of the features I like best is how fast I can accelerate across intersections....I have a couple blind intersections where I hafta make a left, both at the top of a hill, and before I'd be whupped from cranking up the hill and crawl across the other lane at turtle speed, but with the "booster rockets" cut in, it's almost a non-issue.

It's great!

(Editor note: Dave has his 36V eZee kit installed on a Trice recumbent trike)

Ecobike is a dream for commuting

Saturday 13 June, 2009

The Ecobike is a dream bike. It looks cool, and the electric battery gives you a little boost or a lot, as needed. I use it to commute to my office, and uphills & headwinds no longer slow me down. The bike is a total pleasure. Only improvement needed in its next version is to indicate when battery is running low. It goes from "full" charge to "empty" without a warning gauge. I've learned to fully charge the bike every day. Cycle 9 delivered it fully assembled & ready to ride, just when they promised. The staff really knows the product well, advised me with candor, and I'd definately buy from them again.
