Cycle 9 helped me build up my dream Surly LHT!

Monday 13 June, 2011

My built from scratch Surly LHT rides like a Cadillac, but performs like a BMW. In other words I'd rather be on my bike than stuck in traffic! I can't wait to make that really long haul on my LHT, thanks Cycle 9!!!

3000 mile review

Thursday 21 April, 2011

2 years, 3000 miles of rain or shine riding and my BMC kit is still going strong. When I pushed it a little too hard warranty service was great. Highly recommend going with Cycle 9 for quality and price.

Thanks from a former eBike builder

Thursday 17 March, 2011

Twenty years ago, I built and rebuilt bikes and eBikes as my real passion in grad school. Then came marriage, a "real job", and kids and a controller problem in the eBikes I couldn’t fix so we had rarely ridden bikes with funny 8 lb weights (motors) attached!

When my very patient spouse and one of our kids WANTED to ride the long idled eBikes prior to Earth Day, I knew it was going to take some maintenance. Where in Central NC to get someone to work on nearly decade old eBikes? Given a reference from a fellow swimmer and runner, we went to Cycle9.

Cycle9 helped get a 2001 Currie Tech eBike back on the road. Next they rebuilt a Dahon 16" folder for barely more than the cost of a regular tuneup. After a “find” at a yard sale turned out to be unusable, Cycle9 techs worked with Currie to get the right parts to rebuild an iZip eScooter that my daughter loves to show off! No need for a high end eBike to get high end treatment at Cycle9!

Thanks, guys. We'll be back!

My Cycle-9 Powered Power Kona Ute

Thursday 13 January, 2011

My Cycle-9 Powered Power Kona Ute

For those who care about stats, the bike is a 2010 Kona UTE. The motor is a 600W BMC V2-T hub motor coupled with a 35A Infineon Controller (from Cycle9) monitored by a Cycle Analyst version 2.2 Direct Plug in. The big black trunk on the rear deck houses a 48V 15 Amp-Hour LiFePO4 battery. The seat is a big comfortable SERFAS Cruiser while the steering is handled by a Dimension Super Wide Sweep Cruiser handlebar. The wheels are 700C and the whole rig rolls gently on Schwalbe 2" Big Apples.

Big Brute

Thursday 23 December, 2010

Got my Crystalyte 5304 front hub motor and mounted it on a mountain bike with a child tote trailer for three 12 volt batteries in series for 36 volts. It is all I need and then some. with six more batteries I'll be ready to hook up solar panels and be ready for long distance trekking.

Electric Yuba

Tuesday 08 June, 2010

I am the proud owner of the best bike in the world: a Yuba Mundo (v2) powered by a BMC V2T motor. Ok, maybe not the best "in the world", but it's pretty darn cool. As far as I can tell (and as far as Cycle 9 can tell), I was one of the first people to put the Yuba under the spell of electrons.

Even though Cycle 9 is located probably 2500 miles away from me, it was a good choice. Elise and the rest were very helpful, spending all sorts of time on the phone answering all my questions. Believe me, there were a lot of questions. And even when there wasn't a clear answer, Cycle 9 would say, "try this and if it doesn't work, we'll get you something that will". Very comforting!

With the great bike from Ben at Yuba and the help from Cycle 9, I have an e-bike that stops traffic like a Ferrari. Plus, I can carry more passengers and more cargo. My best load so far: 2 kids, 100 pounds of play sand, and 4 bags of groceries – ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

Thanks for everything Cycle 9!

Truly Impressed!!

Saturday 22 May, 2010

I am so impressed with all aspects of cycle 9. I am new to e-bike and decided to purchase from cycle 9 because 1) they are a real bike shop and 2) They seemed to be very knowledgeable of their products. I was especially impressed by their blog and video postings on related subjects and reviews of their products (some even critical). They shipped my order very quickly and provided patient phone support. There are a lot of places on the web to purchase the 9c motor that I chose, but I highly recommend getting it from the professionals at cycle 9.

I like this pack!

Tuesday 04 May, 2010

Just got the pack today and I really like it. It's a breath of fresh air to have a strong, simple battery that just plain works. My old LiPo pack with its BMS used to cut off on my all the time if I gave it too much throttle. This pack just powers right through! The one thing I would caution is that if you are putting it in a rear rack bag, lay the pack down so the cells are vertical. I tried standing it up as shown in the product picture and this puts too much stress on the bottom/outer two batteries and they come unwelded in no time (happened on my first ride on a bumpy trail). I fixed it by simply soldering the jumpers back on carefully but not all customers will have the expertise to do this. So be advised: don't put stress on those cells on the corners of the triangle!
