Now it's easy to extend the range of your Madsen cargo bike.
Got yourself a great new Madsen bike and want to use it more often? Do your legs wear out half way up the hill? Not feeling 100% energetic every day? Electric-assist helps you tackle these problems and make your bike the new mini van.
We've been pairing electric kits and bikes to help people ride their bikes more, and now we've developed an electric-assist kit specifically for the Madsen cargo bike! No need to continue searching around the internet for the perfect combination of motor, controller, and battery. We've compiled all the parts and knowledge you need in one place to get yourself on the road as quickly as possible.
This kit is based on the eZee electric motor kit. This internally geared motor has lots of torque in a lightweight package that won't affect your steering. Mounted in the front wheel, it balances the weight on the front of the bike and maintains a sleek, elegant design. The power is controlled by a handlebar mounted grip throttle. Need some assistance? Just twist the throttle for a little or a lot of power - you choose how much you need. Don't need any assistance? Let the throttle return to neutral position and your bike is back to a pedal bike. The motor is very quiet, so you can still carry on conversations with any little (or big) passengers you might have in the back.
A big challenge with electric-kits is what to do with the battery? We've worked that one out for you with a strap system that mounts the battery and controller between the seat stay and the bucket. The weight is carried down low and all the wires are neatly tied up. No messy wiring into the bucket and no bucket space tied up by a battery. Simply switch the battery on and off with the mounted switch, or unplug the battery and take it inside to charge.
Turn your Madsen into a car-replacement that you'll feel great about riding and impress your friends to boot!

Why get a Madsen electrification from Cycle 9?
We will find the right solution for electrifying your cargo bike, because we are some of the few world experts in electrifying cargo bikes. Both of the owners ride electrified cargo bikes every day, so we know what works, and what doesn't - which means you don't have to spend your time worrying about it. Dr. Morgan installed her first electric bike kit in 1994, that's 15 years of experience installing, using, and supporting electric assist systems (her degrees in Physics and computer science also don't hurt when it comes to supporting electronic equipment).
You can always know how your battery is doing. We offer a free battery diagnosis using our advanced battery testing equipment, any time during your ownership. While the batteries look simple on the outside, on the inside lithium batteries have sophisticated electronics to maintain their long life. (You can listen in on Morgan discussing lithium batteries on Home Power Hour for more info). Since we build these electronic battery management systems in house, we know what it takes to make a good battery, and we know how to make sure that your battery will have a long life by pairing it with the right charger and right battery management.
Here's an example of why our expertise benefits you. Recently we got a new batch of lithium ion batteries in. We put them on the tester right away (as we always do), and were immediately disappointed. They fell short of claimed capacity by 20% or more. We applied our expertise to figure out why (neither the manufacturer nor distributor knew why, but we weren't going to sell these unless we figured it out). It was about one month of diagnosis and sleuthing, revealing that the charger was not using the right charging program. We quickly contacted the charger manufacturer and got this rectified - they used our expertise to modify the chargers to do the job right. Now, with the updated chargers, those same batteries consistently give about 110% of their claimed capacity. We wouldn't sell them any other way. And the thing is, we know of other electric kit sellers who don't do this kind of sleuthing work. We wish they would, because it would assure a great product that helps electric bikes build a better reputation, benefiting everyone. But some folks are out to make a quick buck, and don't seem to care too much about whether the product actually works as claimed. We aren't those kind of people - we want you to enjoy your experience and Ride Your Bike More, and we know the only way to do that is to get you a product that meets or exceeds expectations.
There are a lot of new folks in the electric bike market. In some ways, that's great - we think electric bikes are a big part of reducing dependency on foreign oil. But the problem is that a lot of the folks getting into this are not electric bike users themselves, and often don't understand what it takes to maintain and support these. While these systems are not rocket science, and usually work reliably, giving good customer support in the requires deeper knowledge of DC electrical systems like this. It's akin to buying a car - most cars are pretty reliable these days, but when your car does have a problem, you want an expert to fix it, not just some random person with no auto expertise. Electric drive systems are the same way. We often end up supporting products that customers bought from another seller, because the seller can't fix any problems. But here's the rub. If you buy from us, you get that support for free as part of the warranty. If you buy from someone else, we have to charge for our time, and it isn't cheap ($60/hour).
By providing top-notch products and support, we'll help you Ride Your Bike More. We make that a guarantee. If the Madsen Electrification Kit doesn't help you Ride Your Bike More, you can return it for a full refund, anytime in the first 6 months. We only ask that it be treated well if you decide to return it.
For a complete electric kit for your Madsen, you've found the right place.
